Subject: Headed for the Frisco Bay...
First time in San Francisco(Franpsycho?) for me as well. I got there a month early, actually, and had hitchhiked/hopped a train/walked from Massachusettes. Of course it's one of those Holy places, for Deadheads especially, to visit. I bummed around, played guitar on the streets, visited the old Dead house on 710, etc. (nice stencil work over there by the way) Was a fufilled dream to catch the New Year's shows on the west coast! I picked up trash to get in the first two nights, and on the second I, and my boyfriend, were each blessed a miracle.
My hat goes off to the boys for still making it possible, and to the tapers for archiving these magical moments

What an amazing night... So much fun and the music was so good, my first time in San Fran...

Subject: Another great night
So I decided to drive back to Seattle on Friday as Saturday was looking like a great powder skiing day. Indeed it turned out to be bluebird and first tracks all day, otherwise known as a Sunshine Daydream.

That being said, I knew I was going to miss something special on Friday night, and now listening to it I am not disappointed. What great music. They just picked up where they left off the night before.

What a Jack!! Best ever, hard to say. Check out the Jack that Furthur did 10/5/11 at the Greek. John's solo is equally impressive.

Best ever IMHO has always been 5/22/82 from the Greek Theater in Berkley. Check it out, there's a great matrix.

Great Phil bombs though. I can only imagine how "jacked" everyone was after that.

These guys are just amazing, let's hope the music never stops!

Subject: magic
Bobby's playing and vocals were in top form as the band ripped through the 3rd & 4th sets of the NYE run. The changes were seamless, and King Solomon's Marbles magically appeared out of thin air. 12/29 & 12/31 were great as well, but the middle show was magic. Thank You for a real good time, and happy new year!!

Subject: Upon Furthur Review
I was in 213, first row, right side...thanks Marty! Well, a whole lot more people deserve the thanks for those seats, like Kim & Ethan, and Craig...well, thanks to everyone :)

My memory ain't what it used to be, but in reviewing the set list now compared to what I think I heard, this show never really left the late 60's early 70's until Touch and the frantic sound qualities was a nice treat. Or perhaps they just calmly played the frantic parts. Yes, that was it.

Who *ever* would have believed that Cold Rain & Snow would be considered the slow song of a set? Sailor>Saint were exceptionally vibrant and I agree with the other reviewers that this 1st set can simply be described as Right On! Passenger>Wharf Rat were beautifully rendered and I just couldn't get that Passenger riff out of my head...until Mason's Children came along the following night, but that's for another review.

Jeff was very energetic and when the audio guys decide to turn him up, great things usually happen.

Great recording, and hey, I could have left right after eyes, but I would have stayed just for the fund of it.

Subject: Breathtaking
I am so glad to read the review by pyroz, I couldn't have said it better. The Jack Straw was a monster! Also stellar versions of Lost Sailor > St. of Circumstance, and Wharf Rat. Check out the vocals on Wharf Rat from 4:45 to 5:05 with John along with Sunshine & Jeff belting it out... I got chills then and now... Nak guy always pulls a great listen, thanks!

Subject: Jack Straw
The best Jack Straw this band has ever done, and it rivals even the best GD versions.

The rest of the show was stellar as well. Phil was dropping bombs all over the place, Bob was actually singing, and the crowd had a ton of energy that the band was just feeding off of. John and Jeff especially were on this night, and their jams were fantastic. The first set was the best first set in this band's history if you ask me, and the second set was almost as good. Thanks to nakguy for getting this up so quickly. I had to hear the Jack Straw again, as I knew it was good when I heard it live, but hearing it again gave me chills.
